South Korea Declares Virtual Money Real (another link) – What this could mean for the real economy

• SK Supreme Court ruled that “cyber money” can be legally exchanged for actual cash
• Online players can sell their in-game currency to other players for real money.
• Taxation now becomes a factor in all these transactions (think 10%)
• Ruling only good in South Korea, but in 2008 alone, $882 million worth of currency was exchanged

Azure arrives with a whiff! (user requested)

• Promise of true cloud computing not yet there
• Rackspace Cloud
• Azure Offerings – pay as you go slices of servers on the Internet
• Google Docs
• OnLive Console
• XBox Live anywhere (whaaa-whaaa-whaaa)
• STEAM (meh, not enough apps are using its cloud feature)
  • (JP) Is it just me or does this seem like another one of those things M$ is doing to say that they offer it??
  • IE Google has a huge push for ‘Cloud Computing’ so with this M$ has a cloud offerring as well
  • albiet without any real world fit yet??
  • KDR – what the eff is it exactly? “Primarily a platform for developers, Windows Azure plays host to the .Net Framework, SQL Server, SharePoint, Dynamics CRM, and an offering called Live Services, which will extend Azure services “outward” to connect with locally running Microsoft software. Using this rich environment, developers will be able to build and deploy Web applications and services running on Microsoft’s worldwide infrastructure of datacenters”
    • when do I get MS Office, Adobe software, etc?

They are starting a competition this Friday. In order to celebrate 6 months live we are giving away 10 ipods in a drawing.

To enter the drawing post some content to the site. They are trying to increase their content from users, you can post either one video review (doesn’t matter length – actually the shorter the better or 5 app descriptions. These are actually your take on an app in no more than 140 characters. So five tweets to get in to the draw and you can enter as many times as you like do the more you post the more of the change of you winning.

    • (JP – Don’t believe there is going to be a ‘Zune Phone’ I think Zune is just going to be the media or music player in the next windows phone…)
    • ok… way to burst my bubble Yes, you are probably right but having it as a media player on a touch friendly windows media
    • The rumors are such, M$ is set to announce the new Windows Mobile 7 w/ Zune player at the MWC Feb. 15-18 (the big cell phone shindig)
    • Regardless, its time for the venerable series to get with the times and actually get a real live app store that has some teeth, besides xbox live (which only works on the xbox duh)
    • Anybody remember XNA Studio? yeah, would be nice if there was a store for those apps on their phones…

• Obama Cancels Moon Aspirations
  • I’m so pissed at Obama over this

  • Key points: No funding for Project “Constellation” which was W’s initiative to reach the moon
  • No funding for the replacement for the Shuttles: Shuttles will cease operation on schedule
  • Slightly more funding to promote private companies in space research
  • Extension of the ISS, but w/ the Russians providing all transportation
  • Obviously if no moon, then no mars
  • Billions already spent, down the drain
