John writes that he’s having a problem with the ST Online Pre-Orders
“Well I had a little problem with the ST Online Collector’s Edition pre order. Originally I’d ordered it from Amazon, because of the cool extra features including open beta access, and a borg bridge officer. After that, I realized that there’s ANOTHER bonus item out there that I want more! If you pre order from game stop, you get a constitution class ship as a part of your account (way better than a borg bridge officer)
Any idea if there are yet more bonuses lurking out there for ST Online pre orderers?”
- Here we’ll add to your problem…
- GameStop: Exclusive ship: The classic USS Enterprise
- Best Buy: Pet Tribble or Targ (based on faction)
- Amazon: “Liberated Borg” Bridge Officer with “unique nanotechnology augmentations”
- Direct2Drive: Multi-Spatial Personal Shield (regenerates itself and player health)
- Wal-mart: Bonus Skill Points (bestows additional skill points)
- Target: TR-116 ground weapon (micro-transporter beams projectiles to target, no line of sight required)
- Steam: Chromodynamic Armor, improves critical hits and damage of energy weapons
Letter from Brandon thanking us for the Holiday gift guide.
“I wanted to tell you the last show was great. I thought it was awesome having all the gifts suggestions. I am really thinking about getting one of the Scottie vests. Also, I had forgotten about erector sets, I used to go crazy with them as well. I just ordered the “The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead” for $10 including shipping from Walmart. Anyways guys keep up the great work. Enjoy listening to you guys and will as long as you stream.
P.S.: Cole is gorgeous”
Geek Speak
- Vaporware and Overhype (SM)
- Apple Tablet
- Crunchpad Tanks – Specs here
- 12″ screen, light browsing on the web, email, wi-fi enabled, ~$300
- L4D2
- Despite being hyped as ridiculously better, delivers less or par to L4D1
- Feels like an expansion not a whole new game to pay $60
- Some complaints out there that the AI director is now fatally flawed and is harder than needed
- Still fun with friends but so was L4D1… would have been just as happy with an XPack for the first
- SF IV
- Really? Just a re-skinned Streetfighter II with 3D graphics
- Can’t we just all play SF II or Turbo? Cheap end boss, with all the SF out there, why but one 3 gens back?
Tech,Gaming, and Geek News
- DARPA Looking to Create “Zombie” Soldiers (JP)
- Holy Hell!
- How this will work, an injection will put you in hibernation, effectively stopping your heart (think squirrels and bears)
- When you get back to the aid station, a antidote will be administered and all your vital signs will come back. TADA! undead.
- Already testing this on rats and small animals
- All kidding aside, a majority of the deaths on a battlefield come from the inability to stop the bleeding and evacuate the wounded
- Comcast Buys NBC from GE (SM)
- Acquiring %51 for 13 Beeellion dollars
- Comcast finally has a stake in the over-the-airwaves market
- C$ also owns Versus, E, Golf, and G4
- One thing that could be effected is Hulu.com, which is owned partly by NBC Universal
- Comcast has promised to leave that business model alone
- (Lets talk worse case scenarios – Hulu only available to comcast subscribers, hulu taken down, limited choice field, considerations to in-house networks)
- Nook has arrived, is it a Kindle Killer? (JP)
- Pretty much same specs with the screen – e-Ink and gray scale
- However – small color touch screen instead of keyboard at bottom, ePub support (open book format), loan feature (only once)
- A bit buggy but at least its competition
- Won’t be able to find it in the brick and mortar stores until probably February
- Microsoft and Yahoo Finally Execute their Search Agreement (SM)
- This ball was started 6 months ago but finally takes effect
- Yahoo will use the Bing tech for searching but maintain majority of its ad revenue
- Kind of useless really? Microsoft was stealing their market share from Yahoo anyways
- Google still king
- Mobile Phones Not Related to Brain Tumors (Cole)
- Some tinsel hat pundits have pointed at cell phones as possible cancer factories
- 30 year study of almost everybody in Scandinavia
- Despite the soaring use in the 90′s of mobile phones, no significant rise in brain tumor occurrences (1998-2003)
- Denmark, Findland, Norway, and Sweden all have very good cancer registries with over 60,000 ppl having brain cancer
- America’s Army Costs Military $32 Million Dollars (SM)
- This over 10 years, anywhere between 1.5 million and 4 million dollars a year spent
- Was pitched to congress as a 5 year 7 million dollar project
- Used as a recruiting tool, its one of the ways they stave off the draft and garner volunteers
- This last game they just released was crap, when we have things such as COD: MW2
- Just buy the MW engine already…
