The Power Geeks #9

by DarthMolen on Jul.30, 2009, under The Latest Shows

What We Are Playing

Jeremy -     Crush Bunny on iPhone
A great addictive little game for the iPhone that is kinda twisted depending on how you play…
Object is to save bunnies from meteors falling to earth, uses tilt functions, and has tons of mini games (Rocket launcher to blow up meteors, etc..)
Sometimes I find myself killing the bunnies instead of saving them… either way, it’s tons of fun. 4 out of 5 Geeks
THE POWER GEEKS 1st Ever Twitter contest…. The first listener to have heard the show and Tweet @JPuent with “I Listen to The Power Geeks, and I wanna Crush some Bunnies!!” will win a code for the Game!!!
That’s right folks… a free copy of Crush Bunny can be yours! be the first to Send @JPuent a message a win!!!

Also, More of UFC 2009 …. and yes… I still suck at it, but have a blast playing it!

Steve – 3 minutes of Monkey Island, GearQuest (facebook), WoW – Naxxramas 25

    • The Next Edition of Xbox Live Dashboard will have the option for Movie Parties
      • essentially a group of friends who all have the netflix subscription  put on their headsets and watch a movie all at the same time streamed to each console
      • not all movies are allowed, and everyone would have to have Netflix subscriptions (movies on demand – not all movies are available this way either)
  • Jeremy got accepted into the Xbox Live Preview beta group… I’m awaiting the email to download the new version…

  • IPhone 3GS Not as Secure As You Think

  • Yahoo, Microsoft Ink Ad Partnership  (JP)

    • In a 10-year deal announced in the early hours of July 29, Microsoft became the clear No. 2 in a market long dominated by arch-rival Google.
      • How did they jump to number 2? By adding Yahoo’s 20% market share to their own…
    • In a long-awaited pairing aimed at taking on Google, Yahoo will handle ad sales while Microsoft gets the real prize: data on who’s doing what online
    • Yahoo will scrap its own efforts to best Google in search and instead rely on Microsoft’s recently debuted Bing search engine. Ads placed next to those search results would be served up not by Yahoo’s ad platform, dubbed Panama, but by a Microsoft technology called AdCenter.
    • Yahoo salespeople will continue to sell search ads that appear on both Yahoo sites and on Bing, and Microsoft agreed to let Yahoo keep 88% of the revenue on ads that appear on Yahoo sites.
        • AntiTrust ok is still needed for this to go through…
  • Apple Kills Google Voice on IPhone
    • this includes 3rd party apps like GV Mobile
    • Cite “duplication of functionality”
    • What is Google Voice? 1 phone number that then can forward it to list of real phone numbers, voice mail, free SMS, etc.(JP – I got my google voice number about a week ago… I am super pissed about this)
    • (Jeremy) AT&T probably the culprits here, cause SMS is a BIG profit center for them
    • there are already apps for blackberry and android
  • Jerks Help Break Traffic Jams
    • All based upon computer simulations and scientific research
    • “jerks”, ppl who speed up around slow moving cars, pass on the wrong side, change lanes in the intersection, actually break up patterns improving flow
    • (steven) I personally consider myself an aggressive driver
    • One rule to never break: Tailgating. Scientifically proven to cause more accidents (if you’re tailgating, somebody behind you is probly also)
  • Really Cool Technology – New dimension for business cards and more  (JP)
    • a guy from Britain has design a new way of embedding information into a picture that can be read by webcams

        • it shows a video of you introducing yourself and giving your pitch for whatever you do…
        • Great video if you follow the link from our show notes
